CNN Greece: Three brand new hotels in the center of Athens give us ideas for luxury staycations
It's true that our hotel arrivals usually come mainly from the islands in the summer, but now we have three impressive new openings in our city center and we're getting ideas for incredible staycation experiences.
Our Athens is now - by common admission - on an excellent trajectory in terms of its 12-month tourist character and naturally the increased demand also requires an increase in supply. So we are constantly hearing about new hotel openings in the center of our city, with The Ilisian, which is now not far behind, being the most anticipated opening perhaps of the decade. Until then, however, we have selected the three new arrivals that have piqued our interest the most and we present them to you, so that you can be the first to learn what is happening in the city from a hotel point of view, and not only.
Anthology of Athens
Among the most important monuments of our city, a sustainable, luxurious, cultural boutique hotel has just opened its doors and is expected to become a meeting point for visitors and residents of Athens alike. The new five-star hotel is located in the heart of ancient Athens and is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, while bringing the concept of well living to the center of the cultural capital of the world, combining high aesthetics, luxury, sustainability and cultural heritage.
Built next to Dionysiou Areopagitou, below the Acropolis, opposite the Temple of Olympian Zeus, near the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the National Garden, the hotel highlights the concept of “Anthology” as an eclectic collection of images, myths and experiences. Marble, walnut and brushed gold compose an elegant and contemporary aesthetic. The vertical planting in the atrium and the roof garden bring light and greenery to the interior spaces, while the hotel follows the lines of Athenian architecture, always in conversation with the monuments.
The first boutique hotel in Greece aiming for LEED Gold certification, Anthology of Athens implements the Grey Water system for water recycling and drastically reduces its carbon footprint, incorporating the principles of the circular economy.
It includes 18 rooms and suites, all with balconies and state-of-the-art technology, offering unique views of the Acropolis. On the rooftop, the pool and the “Botany Roof Garden at Acropolis” present gastronomic proposals inspired by Greek herbs and local cuisine. The Balaneion Spa, inspired by ancient baths, proposes an authentic wellness experience, while the gym offers wooden equipment and personal training with panoramic views.
The “Hadrian Bibliotheca” library contains selected publications, while the Agora meeting room hosts professional and private events. The hotel, through the Anthology Lectures series, offers thematic lectures centered on culture, history and their relationship to the modern world, while the hotel also provides personalized concierge services and unique ecological and cultural experiences.
